First Victory of the Swim Season

On April 23, the Girls Varsity Swim Team soared into their first victory of the season, beating Escondido Charter by a score of 76 to 53. Our Lady Eagles won seven of 11 events, including two of the three relays.
Leading the way were Captain Gisele Patron and Junior Linxi Barker. Gisele took the 500 freestyle by a full minute, double lapping the competition, and the 100 backstroke by a resounding 4 seconds. Meanwhile, Linxi, our Eagle sprint freestyle specialist, was victorious in the 200 freestyle with a 22-second lead over second, and the 100 freestyle, with a blazing 58-second race. Freshman Lauren Schoneman had an impressive first place finish in the 50 freestyle, just 0.20 seconds shy of breaking the 30-second barrier, followed by a third in the 100 breaststroke. Freshman Riley Adamou added a second in the 100 breaststroke and third in the 50 freestyle. Sophomore Nyak Pollack (100 freestyle) and Senior Torin Bennett (500 freestyle and 100 backstroke) also added third place finishes. Fourth place finishes were swum by Sophomore Raleigh Andrews (200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke). Freshman Grace Buckley, who is new to swimming and making amazing progress, earned 6th place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Our winning 200 Medley Relay (Gisele, Lauren, Linxi, and Torin) took first by 17 seconds and our 200 Freestyle Relay (Torin, Gisele, Lauren, and Linxi) finished 22 seconds ahead of the next team!
Not to be outdone by his female teammates, Boys Varsity Swim Freshman Dax Depew sprinted to a first place victory in the 50 freestyle and a resounding second place finish in the 100 fly.
This was a special meet as Gisele and Torin both swam their Senior 500 freestyle, an SFC Varsity Swim tradition.
Our small but mighty team of nine Soggy Eagles has had a tremendous season. We rise with our team spirit and camaraderie in practice and at meets. Next up, our last tri-meet against Classical Academy, then we head into the Championship season, with the Coastal League Championships on Friday, May 2nd, at the William Wagner Aquatic Center in Oceanside followed by the CIF Prelims and Finals at Granite Hills High School the following week. In Him, we swim with grace and heart.
